
Birmingham. Commonwealth games 2022: In the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, Chhattisgarh’s badminton player Akarshi Kashyap’s excellent performance continues. In her second match, Akarshi defeated Johannita Scholtz of South Africa to reach the semi-finals of the team.
In the match of Badminton Women’s Singles on Sunday night, Akarshi clashed with Yohanita. Akarshi started the game aggressively in his familiar style. Although Yohannita also tried to put pressure, but she was not successful. Saki and Akarshi went ahead 21-11 in the first set.

In the second round, Yohannita showed a consistent attack. Several aggressive shots were fired, but Akarshi did not lose patience and kept on responding firmly. For a time, it looked like Yohannita would take the lead in the second set, but Akarshi dashed her hopes and won the match with 21-16 points.
Apart from Akarshi, India won over South Africa in the quarter-finals of the badminton mixed team. The pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sumit Reddy had defeated the pair of Deirdre Jordan and Jared Eliot in the first match. After this, in the second match, World No 10 Lakshya Sen easily defeated World No 355 Kaiden Kakora 21-5, 21-6. Overall, the performance of the Indian team in badminton has been very good so far.
