Shivakumar and Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah have already approached Priyanka Gandhi in this matter. Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi contested from Karnataka Congress now wants Priyanka to contest from this state.
Karnataka Congress is contemplating to play a new gamble to promote the party ahead of next year’s assembly elections. Preparations are being made to field Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from the state for the Rajya Sabha. Congress sources confirmed that its state unit chief D.K. Shivakumar and Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah have already approached Priyanka Gandhi in this matter.

Both the leaders have reportedly explained to the Congress leader that his grandmother late Indira Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi had earlier contested from Karnataka and won. While Indira Gandhi contested from Chikkamagaluru in 1978, Sonia Gandhi contested from Bellary in 1999. Her arrival in the political arena of the state worked well for the Congress in terms of election results. That’s why Congress is now moving Priyanka Gandhi from state to state. Wants to field for the meeting.
Congress sources said that Priyanka Gandhi has assured to take a decision on the matter after discussing with senior party leaders.
Meanwhile, BJP MP and Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shobha Karandlaje welcomed the Congress’ plan to field Priyanka Gandhi for the Upper House.
“Priyanka Gandhi will be the third generation candidate of the Gandhi family to enter Parliament. I welcome her,” she said. However, he also said that instead of entering Parliament through the back door by electing to the Rajya Sabha, he should be elected from any constituency in Karnataka. Must contest Lok Sabha elections.
“Congress’s condition is not good. She can revive it,” he said. Karandlaje also said that she wants Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to contest the Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka.
