Tokyo. Tokyo Olympics 2020: After Karnam Malleswari in Indian Olympic history, Mira Bai Chanu has won a silver medal in the 49 kg category of weightlifting event, creating history.
The country’s star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu on Saturday won India’s first silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics after Kannam Malleswari in the women’s weightlifting event.
Mirabai, who hails from Manipur, successfully lifted 110 kg in her maiden clean and jerk attempt in the decider. With this, she finished second in the competition. Earlier in 2000, Karnam Malleswari won a bronze medal in weightlifting.
His best snatch came in 87kg and clean and jerk in 115kg. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Mira Bai on this achievement. He said, “I could not have asked for anything more than this. Happy Meera Bai. Your success will encourage all Indians.”
